Tips for Dating

This year has certainly been like no other, and dating during an ongoing pandemic might seem both scary and downright weird. Indeed, these circumstances aren’t exactly the way we imagined meeting Mr. or Mrs. Right.

With the old rules no longer applying, we have to take things up a notch and put our best foot forward when it comes to dating, because, hey, who knows what’s going to happen in 2022. Take a look at our advice for dating in 2021.

1. Beware of the “New Normal” When it Comes to Dating

If you thought ghosting was bad, just wait until you hear what else you might have to get used to when dating in 2020. These days, you also have to worry about being “glamboozled.” That is to say, if you’ve ever dolled yourself up, only to be canceled on at the last minute, then you’ve experienced such a phenomenon.

Unfortunately, you could also be “dial toned,” meaning you never hear back from someone after calling or texting them prior to actually going out. Or, perhaps the number you got from said person was fake to begin with. A whopping 60 percent of singles have experienced this, and 35 percent have actually done it.

And while these dating trends aren’t new, they’re certainly happening in record cases, according to some dating apps like Plenty of Fish and Bumble. Still, don’t be discouraged by the actions of the masses and instead focus on finding the diamonds in the rough.

2. Get Yourself All Dolled Up

As the saying goes, if you want to feel your best, you’ve got to look and feel your best. And what better way to boost your confidence than getting all dolled up to go on a date? With this in mind, spring for the expensive eyeliner and those lashes you couldn’t get enough of, but don’t forget the most important item — lingerie. In fact, buying some sexy lingerie and garters now can be a great way to take any relationship to the next level once you get there and are both ready. Indeed, once you find that special someone, you’ll be glad you were prepared.

3. Consider Virtual Date Night Ideas

Since the pandemic hasn’t died down this summer like we all hoped, it’s time to start getting creative when it comes to dating. Virtual dates can still be pretty fun if the chemistry is there. Think about watching a movie over FaceTime or having a glass of wine and playing a game while you video chat.

You could also follow a recipe together, make crafts for each other (and exchange them when the pandemic is over), or take a fun class together online. Or, you could come up with your own ideas for a virtual date. Just be creative and have fun and you should have no problem connecting when it comes to being with the right person.

4. Wear a Mask on Actual Dates

If you’re not a fan of virtual dates and want to actually get to know someone the traditional way, make sure you do so while wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing protocols in public. You might also want to ask your date ahead of time their plans to maintain safety when you go out, as well as what safety measures they usually take to protect themselves.

After all, it might be your or your date’s first time going out since the pandemic began, making it important that you’re both open and upfront about this kind of thing. You might even want to make it a point to get tested for COVID-19 before meeting anyone in-person or plan to meet in an outdoor space where the risk of getting the virus is lower.

5. Put Yourself Out There

Whether this means getting on a few dating apps like Bumble and Plenty of Fish, putting yourself out there is one of the best things you can do in 2020. Plus, since you’re not the only one out there looking for love despite the pandemic, don’t be afraid to truly let yourself take chances and experience something new. After all, you never know if you’ll cross paths with the love of your life, so don’t hold anything back. Get on those dating apps and put your best foot forward. Revamp your bio and photos every few weeks and keep putting yourself out there no matter what.
