Simple Ideas to Build your Room Soundproof

The pandemic of Covid-19 has entirely changed the normal living style. Work from home has been the new normal trend in maximum countries since 2020, and it will continue as long as the situation is completely under control. You need to concentrate on the work even if you are sitting in your bedroom. The continuous car honks or the different external noises always become a disturbing factor. And these can be more irritating when you are trying to sleep at night.

Soundproofing is essential

You cannot control the external sounds surrounding the bedroom. But you can certainly apply some methods that will help to keep the noise at bay. Most of the methods to ensure soundproofing will depend on four basic principles.

  1. Walls should be dense and airtight to prevent the penetration of noise.
  2. Sealing the cracks and increasing the mass of the walls might help.
  3. Separation of the drywall during interior construction of the building through decoupling.
  4. Use of soft materials to absorb the sound waves before reflecting and amplifying on the surfaces.

Types of soundproofing

There are two primary types of soundproofing.

  • Sound reduction: This process will prevent or block the entry of sound completely inside the rooms. It can effectively maintain a quiet indoor area as it can block the noise of outdoor conversations, weather elements, and traffic.
  • Sound absorption: This process is also called sound deadening. It will stop the noise from reverberating and echoing without blocking off the entry.

Soundproofing with curtains

If you are looking for a simple but effective solution, soundproof curtains can be the ideal answer. These curtains will contribute to noise reduction and prevent echoing. Also, it will offer a standard level of thermal insulation. Although the curtains cannot replace the standard insulation in the windows and walls, they can definitely offer additional insulation for a warmer interior during the winter and a cooler summer.

  • The curtains are thick and heavy. The design aims to keep out sound and light. So if you expect infiltration of natural light after hanging the curtains, you won’t get so. But the equal prevention of echoes and sound absorption goes a long way in proving a quiet interior.
  • The process of installation is easy, unlike complex procedures like the installation of cloud foam.
  • Thermal insulation is always a notable factor as you have to pay lower utility bills if you choose to prefer the curtains over other options.

How do the curtains work

The thick and dense material won’t make the rooms completely silent but quiet enough to give you a peaceful sleep at night. The curtains cannot cancel the noise but can reduce the sound through sound dampening. There are pores on the surface of these special curtains that can absorb the sound waves.

Seal up the gaps

Sound can easily travel through the gaps. If you have gaps below the door of the room, then sound must be entering the bedroom easily. Instead of tossing and turning on your bed regularly, you can simply close up the gap. An easy way is to adhere the rubber weatherstripping to the lower surface of the door. It will effectively be free of sound.

Ceiling clouds

If you face serious issues like being unable to sleep at night due to constant noise, you have to consult the professionals and add the ceiling cloud. It is basically an acoustic foam cloud that will hang from the ceiling of your room. It can effectively eliminate echoes and also absorb the noises. It can be expensive, but it is a highly feasible solution considering the rooms with high ceilings and the lofted rooms.

Rearrange the furniture

It is not necessary to spend a good lot of money on soundproofing. In fact, you can take some steps to control the noise without buying anything special at all. For instance, if you move a heavy bookcase or a dresser to an outside-facing wall or to the wall behind the hallway, it can prevent the sound from hitting your ears and will absorb the external noise as well.

Panels at help

And if you want a more effective impact, it is better to arrange for acoustic foam paneling on the bedroom walls. It will absorb the noise from inside and reduce the incoming noise.
