Vacation

In 2015, more than half of Americans didn’t take their vacation days.

Many people don’t like traveling because they feel like it’s a hassle, and it stresses them out more than it relaxes them. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Traveling to a new place means lots of things like the language barrier and the possibility of illnesses. But with a few tips, it possible to have a nice vacation. Learn how.

#1. Do Your Research

When you’re in a foreign place, things can get stressful very quickly if you’re not prepared, which may ruin your chances of having a nice vacation.

But if you do your research, you can be prepared for whatever unexpected problems arise on your trip. You can know where the closest hospital is. You can know which restaurants you can go to or avoid if you have an allergy restriction or you are traveling with an eating disorder.

#2. Turn Your Phone Off

We are always attached to our phones, whether it’s waiting for an important phone call or just checking social media.

While it can be tempting to update every moment of your trip, sometimes stepping away from your phone screen and enjoying the new surroundings you are in can help you get more out of your vacation.

Whether it’s not taking that one picture or deciding not to answer that text right away, doing this helps you notice things you may have never noticed otherwise.

#3. Go on Adventures

When you are on vacation, try to do something you normally wouldn’t do. Maybe that consists of trying a new food or taking a tour of a city you weren’t planning on visiting. Maybe 10-mile hike to prove to yourself you can do it.

Sometimes taking a risk and having a little bit of adventure will leave you with a sense of excitement and make the trip one that you’ll never forget.

It can also leave you with great stories to tell everyone when you get back. Going on an adventure and trying something new can even teach you things you never would’ve known about yourself.

#4. Slow Down

You need to find a good middle ground when it comes to planning your itinerary. You want to be busy so that you can get as much out of your trip at once, but you don’t want to be so busy and sleep deprived that you can’t enjoy anything while you are there.

It depends on who you’re going with when you start making plans. If you are going with people who are ready to go all of the time, you can plan more activities. But if you are going with people who aren’t as excited about waking up at 6 a.m. to go on a hike, you may want to schedule some free time.

The bottom line is to just find the right pace for you and to schedule down time while you’re on your trip.
